If you are not able to find what you were looking for, we can borrow items from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan. Before requesting a title through Interlibrary Loan, we kindly ask that you check the Halton Hills Public Library Catalogue. If we have the title that you are looking for, please place a request through our catalogue.
Please note that this service is only for borrowing books that are two years old or greater. New titles are not available through Interlibrary Loan.
Items other than books are not available through the Interlibrary Loan Service. If you wish to request audiovisual items (DVDs, video games or audiobooks on CD), or items in digital formats (ebooks, audiobooks), please fill out our Suggest a Purchase form.
Please note: Interlibrary Loan Requests typically take 3 - 6 weeks to arrive but may take longer under certain circumstances. If you wish to cancel a request before it arrives, please email illo@haltonhills.ca. You can only have 10 active requests at any one time.
There are two ways to request items through Interlibrary Loan:
Self-Serve Interlibrary Loan |
The self-serve interlibrary loan catalogue and ordering system has changed to a new system as of January 2, 2025. All requests placed in the old system will still be processed. If you had an account on the old system, you will need to create a new account on the new system.
If you frequently borrow through our Interlibrary Loan service or if you would like to see what is available at other libraries, you can use our self-serve option.

Request Form |
If you only need to use our Interlibrary Loan service once in a while or if you want to borrow multiple copies of the same item for your book club, you can request items in person at either library location, by calling the library or by completing the Borrow from Another Library form. How much does it cost?
- Interlibrary Loans from other public libraries are usually free of charge.
- Some libraries, such as university libraries, do charge a fee. If the item you request can only be borrowed from a university, a staff person will let you know the cost before the item is borrowed.
- Fines will be charged on overdue Interlibrary Loan materials in accordance with Halton Hills Public Library policies.
- Fees for lost or damaged items borrowed from other libraries are charged to your library card account. The library that lent the item to you determines these fees.
