Child and family services

Child and family services help support the well-being of children and families by working to create equitable access to healthy food, support child development, and help families meet their full potential. In-library branch services for children and families are provided by:  

Food for Life

Community fridges sponsored by Food for Life and funded through the Halton Region, are in both Acton and Georgetown branches of the library. These fridges provide a selection of fruits, vegetables and other perishables for residents and neighbors in need of food. Fridges are open and accessible during regular library operating hours. Halton Women's Place
Halton Women’s Place is a non-profit organization devoted to assisting abused women and their dependent children. Drop-in to the Georgetown or Acton branch to learn more about community-based services for woman and their children who are experiencing abuse, including support, community referrals, safety planning and crisis counselling.

Employment and employment training programs

Employment programs and services help connect residents of Halton Hills with employment supports and training opportunities. In-library branch employment services are provided by:

Adult Learning Centre

The Adult Learning Center offers tutoring in reading, writing, and math up to grade 9 level, and basic Computer Skills for Work. Prepare for college by enrolling in the Sheridan College Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) program. GED® Test Prep program for high school equivalency, is also available. Halton Region Small Business Centre

Offers help with starting a small business and developing your existing business. Business consultants are available virtually. Stride
Supports the employment needs of individuals facing mental health and addiction issues. Programs and services include pre-employment, employment connections, youth employment and employment peer mentoring. VPI Working Solutions

Acton Foodshare

Housing and shelter services

Housing and shelter services support residents in finding safe and affordable housing in Halton Hills.  Supports include long-term and short-term or emergency access to shelter. In-library branch housing support services are provided by:

Legal services help support residents with equitable access to legal advice. In-library branch legal services are provided by: 

Halton Community Legal Services

Mental health and addiction services

Mental health and addiction service providers ensure equitable mental health and addictions supports for all residents, including children, youth, and adults. In-library branch and virtual mental health and addiction services are provided by:

ADAPT 

Is a non-profit, outpatient addiction agency in Halton offering free and confidential services for persons with alcohol, drug, gambling, or behavioural addictions. To meet with a peer support worker at the Library, please call 905-639-6537 ext. 0 or email ADAPT (adapt@haltonadapt.org).

Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA)

CMHA provides support to people with mental health and/or addiction concerns. They offer crisis support, call-in counselling, case management, peer support, training and education about mental health, addictions, wellness, and workplace health. EFRY Female Attendance Centre Counselling

Canadian Citizenship Services and Exam Preparation
The Halton Hills Public Library offers a variety of programs and services designed to assist you in becoming a Canadian Citizen. View our Program Calendar for event dates where you can meet with a Settlement Specialist to learn about new regulations, forms, documents and get valuable tips on how to prepare for the citizenship test. Also available at the Circulation desk at our Acton and Georgetown branches are Exam Preparation Kits.

The Ontario Caregiver Organization
The Ontario Caregiver Organization (OCO) exists to support Ontario’s 4 million caregivers; ordinary people who provide physical and emotional support to a family member, partner, friend or neighbour.
