Literacy is important at any age. The Halton Hills Public Library is committed to supporting literacy from early childhood to adulthood.
Early Childhood Literacy Programs |
The Halton Hills Public Library offers a wide range of story times and other programs intended to prepare children to read, prepare them for school and help them develop a life-long love of books. For more information, visit the Early Literacy Programs page or ask our staff to find the right program for your child. |
Supporting Literacy for School-Aged Children |
The Halton Hills Public Library is here to help kids of all interests and reading levels to keep reading. The easy-reader collection helps children improve their reading skills with fun stories and well-known characters. The books are divided into three levels: Easiest, Easier, and Easy. Please see our library catalogue for a full list of easy reader books. We have book clubs for kids who love to read. We meet once a month through the school year. We talk about books and do book-related activities. We have snacks too. The book clubs are free. Please see our events calendar for upcoming clubs. We have programs that will keep kids reading over the summer. Research shows that kids who don't read when they're not in school can lose reading skills. For more information visit our Summer Reading Club Page. We are also happy to help you find the perfect book all readers in your family. Please ask our staff at any service desk for recommendations. |
Adult Literacy |
The Halton Hills Public Library works in partnership with Literacy North Halton, which operates as the Adult Learning Centre. The Adult Learning Centre is a community based organization that offers tutoring for adults. Services range from teaching adults to read and write (from basics up to grade 9 level) to improving computer literacy skills. For more information, please contact the Adult Learning Centre directly. The library has a small collection of high-interest, low-reading level books for adults. Please see the library catalogue for more information. For advice on finding the perfect book, or for recommendations on what author to read next, no matter your interests or reading level, please ask our staff at any service desk. |
