It’s winter and your local library has a wide variety of free, engaging programs, and activities for the entire family! These programs are designed to entertain, excite, and keep everyone learning in a fun and educational way, all winter long. So, register today and experience these amazing family programs.

KIDS

KinderPrep – a free 30-minute program designed to help 3- and 4-year-olds prepare for kindergarten. This program runs once a week for 8 weeks (register once for the 8 weeks). Visit the HHPL calendar to register and learn more.

Mini Makers – Explore your creativity and learn a new hobby each week in this 8-week crafting program! Learn active painting, finger knitting, beading, and more. No experience is needed. Animation Studio – Let your creativity soar in this 8-week program as we learn how to make our very own animated short films! No experience is required. For children 8-12 years old. Registration is required with a fee of $40 for materials. Visit the HHPL calendar to register and learn more.

YOUTH

Anime Club – Join us at the Georgetown Branch once a month to watch some anime, discuss the latest anime and manga news, and enjoy some anime-themed crafts and events! This program is open to grades 9-12 and meets every fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm. Visit the HHPL calendar to register and learn more.

Teen Advisory Council (TAC) – Earn volunteer hours while helping to plan new teen events, testing new tech, and checking out new books, movies, TV shows, and video games! Teens in grades 8 - 10 can sign up for TAC by filling out the online form on our website.

Teen Writers’ Circle – Do you love to write? Whether your passion is poetry or short stories, novels or fanfiction, come out to meet others, talk about writing, and improve your work. Intro to HTML and CSS - Beginners welcome, no experience necessary. Learn the basics of web design using HTML and CSS programming languages. In this six-part series running from February to April, teens learn how HTML and CSS work and get hands-on practice creating their own code. Visit the HHPL calendar to register and learn more.

ADULTS

Writers’ Circle – This group meets monthly to provide support and encouragement to new, aspiring, and experienced writers of all types of prose, poetry, fiction, and non-fiction works. Raising the Next Gen – A child's early literacy education begins at birth with parents and caregivers acting as a child's first teacher and mentor. Join Dani Austin, Children's Services Librarian at the Halton Hills Public Library, for the next session of Raising the Next Gen: Support for Modern Parents, to learn more about the role of parents and caregivers in developing critical early literacy skills. Attendees will learn how to use five early literacy practices (singing, talking, reading, writing, and playing) to nurture early literacy skills. Visit the HHPL calendar to register and learn more.

Intro to Cognitive Care Kits – Individuals (caregivers and friends) who are supporting the skills and abilities of people living with dementia will learn how to use the library’s Cognitive Care Kits to exercise the mind, help retain skills, and encourage social engagement. Managing Plastics in our Environment – Join Sue Carson for this virtual lecture about reducing plastic. Find out what you can do to reduce single use plastics and learn how Sue is reducing her use both professionally and personally. Visit the HHPL calendar to register and learn more.

Halton Hills Lecture Series: Climate Change and Your Health – Climate change impacts human health in numerous ways from disruptions caused by the physical, environmental, and biological systems. Warm temperatures, extreme weather, changes in precipitation, and rising sea levels can have serious impacts on our health affecting our food supply, drinking water, and air quality – the very basic parameters of our physical and mental health. Through this presentation we will learn how climate change is impacting us locally and how we can prepare ourselves to deal with its impacts. This presentation will be presented by Ashoo Anand, Senior Coordinator of Multicultural Outreach at Credit Valley Conservation. Visit the HHPL website to learn more.
