The Halton Hills Public Library has many resources to help you learn more about the history of the Town of Halton Hills.

Brief History

Following the agreement of Treaty 19 between the Mississaugas of the Credit and the British Crown in 1818, European settlers began to arrive in the area. The towns of Acton and Georgetown and the communities in Esquesing Township grew into diverse, unique places.

In 1974, Halton Region was created along with the new Town of Halton Hills which brought together Esquesing Township and the towns of Acton and Georgetown. Over the last 50 years, Halton Hills has evolved and embraced economic, social and environmental values while continuing to respect its natural heritage lands and become a community where all are welcome.
