Volunteer

Anyone aged 14 and up is welcome to apply as a volunteer.

• Yes, you can earn credit toward your 40 community involvement hours by volunteering at the library.  • Teen Advisory Council members will be given a letter at the end of the school year.

• Children’s Program Support Volunteer: Assist library staff with program delivery by setting up the room, helping children with crafts and activities, and cleaning up after the program. Volunteers are needed on PA Days and during school breaks.  • Program Support Volunteer: Assist library staff with program delivery by setting up activities, providing directional support, helping participants, and counting the number of attendees. Volunteers are needed for large-scale events like FanFest.   • Reading Buddies Volunteer: Help a child discover their love of reading through regular reading practice and literacy games. You will identify your reading buddy’s interests, select appropriate reading material, and create a positive, encouraging learning environment.  • Teen Advisory Council Member: Provide feedback on youth programming, marketing the library to fellow teens, and potential new items for our Teen and Young Adult collections.

• Reading Buddies provides one-on-one reading support for children in grades 2-6. You will be paired with a child in the program. Volunteers must be available for weekly one-hour sessions with their buddy from November to May.  • Successful Reading Buddies Volunteers can read and recite texts proficiently, demonstrate their enthusiasm for working with children, and communicate clearly with both children and their caregivers.

• The Teen Advisory Council (TAC) is a group of youth volunteers who meet monthly at the library.   • Meetings are led by the library’s Youth Team. You will provide feedback on youth programs, marketing to fellow teens, and potential new items for our Teen and Young Adult collections.  • TAC members are required to be on time, off their phones, and actively engaged in the conversation.  • You must attend regular meetings (1 hour/month minimum requirement).  • You can attend TAC meetings in Acton or Georgetown.
