The Halton Hills Public Library Board was established under Town of Halton Hills By-law 2025-0071, passed by Council under the Public Libraries Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. P.44. This by-law explains how the Library Board is set up, how members are chosen, and what the Library Board is responsible for. Its role is to govern the Library and support services that are inclusive and meet the needs of our community.

Annual accomplishments are reported based on the Library Board's Strategic Plan, which aligns with the Town of Halton Hill's Strategic Plan.

The current Library Board continues a long history of public library service in Halton Hills. It builds on the work of:

  • Acton Library Board (established 1898)

  • Georgetown Library Board (established 1895)

  • Esquesing Library Board (established 1973)

These Library Boards came together in 1974, when the Town of Halton Hills was formed. At that time, the Halton Hills Public Library Board was created under By-law 74-43.

The Library Board also guides the Library’s mission, vision, and goals, which reflect our commitment to serving our community.
