Reading Buddies

Halton Hills Public Library's Reading Buddies program can help your child build confidence and cultivate a lifelong love for reading.

Reading Buddies is a free program open to children in grades 2-6. Each child will be paired with their own volunteer partner at the library for a weekly one-hour reading session from November to May. Reading Buddies helps make reading fun by finding reading material that builds on their personal interests and strengths in a judgment-free environment. Children will choose a book to read aloud to their reading buddy, while Reading Buddies provide one-on-one support to help improve literacy and comprehension skills.

Discovering the joy of reading is the first step to becoming a lifelong learner. The Reading Buddies program is about allowing kids to enjoy reading without the pressure of being in a classroom. Our volunteers will be able to help your child select new books, learn more about their interests, and show just how fun reading can be.
