Celebrate National Canadian Film Day with us on April 17
Looking for a great way to celebrate Canadian film? Join us on April 17 at 6:30 p.m. as the OnScreen Halton Hills Film Festival wraps up with a special finale event for National Canadian Film Day.
You’re invited to Acton Town Hall Centre for an evening that brings together film, hockey, and an inspiring guest speaker. The night features a screening of the Canadian sports drama Youngblood, plus a special presentation from Karl Subban.
You may know Subban as the ultimate hockey dad. He’s a former school principal and the father of five, including NHL players P.K., Malcolm, and Jordan Subban. Before the film, you’ll hear him share insights from his experiences in leadership, family, and sport. After his talk, you’ll also have a chance to meet him during a book signing, with copies of his latest adult and children’s books available for purchase.
The film Youngblood tells a powerful story about second chances and personal growth. When a promising young hockey player is suspended after an on-ice incident, he gets one more shot with a new team and must learn to control his temper and refocus his drive. It’s a story about resilience, teamwork, and what it takes to succeed under pressure.
This special event takes place at Acton Town Hall Centre (19 Willow St. N., Acton). Pizza and beverages will be available for purchase, so you can settle in and enjoy the full experience.
Admission is free, but you’ll need to register in advance. Space is limited, so be sure to save your spot early.
Presented by the Halton Hills Public Library, Create Halton Hills, the National Film Board of Canada, and National Canadian Film Day, the OnScreen Halton Hills Film Festival has brought the community together from April 8 to 17 to celebrate Canadian storytelling through film.
Come out for an unforgettable closing night that celebrates the power of film, the spirit of hockey, and the stories that bring us together.
