Help Shape What's Next at HHPL: Applications Open for Library Board
What does the future of your library look like? From the programs and services residents rely on to the spaces where people learn, create and connect, the Halton Hills Public Library plays an important role in our community. Now, we're inviting residents to help shape what comes next.
Applications are now open for community members interested in serving on the Halton Hills Public Library (HHPL) Board for the 2027–2030 term. Following the municipal election, Town of Halton Hills Council will appoint residents to the Board, offering an opportunity to play a meaningful role in guiding the future of local library services.
Make a Difference in Your Community
The Library Board provides governance, strategic direction and oversight to help ensure HHPL continues to meet the changing needs of Halton Hills residents.
Board members help establish priorities, approve policies, oversee finances and support the leadership of the Library. They also bring forward community perspectives, advocate for library services and help guide decisions that will shape the Library for years to come.
From early literacy and lifelong learning to makerspaces, digital services and community partnerships, HHPL offers something for everyone. As our community grows and changes, the Board plays an important role in ensuring the Library continues to evolve alongside it.
Could This Be You?
You don't need previous board experience or a background in libraries to make a difference. We're looking for people who care about their community, bring thoughtful perspectives, work well with others and are willing to learn.
A strong Board reflects the community it serves. We welcome applicants with a wide range of professional, entrepreneurial, public sector, volunteer and lived experiences.
Whether your strengths are in business, finance, strategic planning, leadership, technology, accessibility, community development or building partnerships, your knowledge and perspective could help strengthen the Board.
Most importantly, we're looking for people who are curious, collaborative and interested in contributing to the future of their community.
What Does the Commitment Look Like?
Serving on the Library Board is a volunteer commitment that typically requires approximately 6 to 10 hours per month, including meeting preparation and occasional Library events.
The Board generally meets 8 to 9 times per year, with meetings currently held on the fourth Wednesday of the month from 7 to 9 p.m.
To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years of age, be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, reside in Halton Hills and not be employed by the Halton Hills Public Library or the Town of Halton Hills.
Ready to Help Shape What's Next?
If you're passionate about your community and interested in helping guide the future of the Library, we encourage you to consider applying.
Applications are open until December 1, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. through the Town of Halton Hills' Board and Committee appointment process.
