Following the municipal election, the Town of Halton Hills Council will appoint residents to the Library Board. The Halton Hills Public Library is looking for passionate, community-minded residents to serve on its Board for the 2027-2030 term.
Board members help set the Library’s direction, oversee finances and policies, and make decisions with the community in mind.

What Does the Library Board Do?
Public libraries in Ontario are governed by library boards established under the Public Libraries Act.
The Halton Hills Public Library Board is appointed by Town of Halton Hills Council and provides leadership and oversight to help ensure the Library continues to meet the needs of the community.
Board Members:
Set direction
Help set the Library's priorities and plans for the future.
Provide oversight
Approve policies and oversee finances.
Support leadership
Hire, support and evaluate the Chief Librarian & CEO.
Represent the community
Represent community needs and advocate for the Library.
The Board focuses on the Library's long-term direction and oversight, while the Chief Librarian & CEO and Library staff manage day-to-day operations, programs and services.

You do not need previous board experience.

A Board is strongest when its members bring different backgrounds, skills, experiences and perspectives. We welcome applicants with a wide range of professional, entrepreneurial, public sector, volunteer and lived experiences. Whether you’ve built a business, led teams, developed professional expertise or served your community, your perspective could strengthen the Board.

What is the Time Commitment?
Serving as a volunteer Board member typically requires 6-10 hours per month, including meetings, preparation and occasional Library events.
The Board generally meets 8-9 times per year. Meetings are currently held on the fourth Wednesday of the month from 7:00-9:00 pm.
Who Can Apply?
To serve on the Halton Hills Public Library Board, you must:

Be 18 years of age or older

Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada

Be a resident of Halton Hills

Not be employed by the Halton Hills Public Library or the Town of Halton Hills
Eligibility requirements are established by the Public Libraries Act.
